*How people treat you is their karma; how you react is yours*

KARMA::

The total effect of a person’s actions and conduct

during the successive phases of the person’s existence,

regarded as determining the person’s destiny.

 

Here’s a little story about karma for your Tuesday morning … I was just finishing a morning trip to my favorite Fry’s when I caught a whiff of the Starbucks deliciousness coming from next door. I had two hands full of groceries which should have made me think twice, but once you get the thought of the warm sugary 4,000 calorie coffee treat in your head, you are really powerless against it.  Granted I should have made a trip to the car first to drop off my groceries, but again the force of Starbizzies is a strong one so I waddled towards the store. Now it was clear to me and also clear to the woman exiting the store that I had no shot of opening the door for myself. I looked up at her quickly with pathetic puppy dog eyes saying “please hold the door for me”. But she quickly turned her head and walked out as quickly as possible. And just as soon as I was wishing that she accidentally spill her chai latte down her Calvins and whispering something about her Karma, my Starbucks knight in shining armour looked up from his Ipad saw that I was a damsel in distress and walked clear across the store to open the door for me with a smile.  So just as soon as I was having a negative thought about someone and putting out non happy vibes, someone else comes and does a kind deed to even things out.

 

My take away from the story is this… People are people. For whatever reason, some are nicer and more thoughtful than others. But instead of focusing on the ones that make you crazy… like the ones that take your parking spot, or don’t to “the wave” when you let them ahead of you in the car, or don’t hold the door for you at Starbucks, let’s focus on the ones that do and send happy positive vibes out to the world in honor of them.  So here’s to you, Mr. Dream Boat polite man at Starbucks ~ Thank you for making my day!

If we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow, we are not really living.    

Growth demands a temporary surrender of security.   

It may mean a giving up of familiar but limiting patterns,   

safe but unrewarding work, values no longer believed in,   

relationships that have lost their meaning.   

As Dostoevsky put it, “Taking a new step, uttering a new word, is what people fear most.”   

The real fear should be of the opposite course.
