So we spend forever getting ready to ring in the glorious new year… getting the sparkled eye liner set up just right and making sure that every hair is perfectly curled and in the midst of it, we realize we forgot to eat dinner. Not a great move if you plan on having a few celebratory cocktails. How about a new tradition this year? New Years Eve Brunch! Start out early with some great grub and sip on your first (pomegranate flavored) champagne at 10AM instead of PM.
Check out these great recipes and ideas to make your NYE brunch a winner!
I have been to a lot of absolutely amazing, breath taking places in my life. The Eiffel Tower at sundown, the tulip fields of Holland, and the clearest blue beaches you could ever imagine in Costa Rica. But if you asked me where my favorite place is, without a moments hesitation I would say - the arrivals gate at Boise Airport in Idaho.
It’s really nothing special. It actually kinda smells a little like feet. But it’s not about the what… its about the who. At the gates is my most favorite person waiting for me with the biggest smile you have ever seen on the most beautiful face … my sister. Thinking about how my daughter does a full sprint with her long lanky legs to her aunt and I am trailing behind with 9 bags and 2 pillow pets overwhelms me with so much happy it feels like my heart could burst. I think of it everytime I see my most favorite Holiday movie “Love Actually”. The opening scene makes me bawl like a baby and reminds me just how unbelievably lucky I am to have all those open arms and warm smiles waiting for me.
So here’s to the magic of the Holidays bringing us all together and savoring every moment of those huge warm bear hugs that only family can give!!

** Make Family Traditions a Priority **
* Enjoy the Outdoors – Go on a walking tour of the local light displays *
* Invite Friends – Have people you won’t see on Christmas over for a no-presents party. Ask them to bring snacks or dessert to keep things stress free.
* Take an annual picture – Goofy or formal, a family photo is something you will treasure for years.
* Create Together – Set aside a couple of days for at home fun like crafting snowflakes for windows, building Gingerbread houses, bake cookies, or bread-dough ornaments.
** Do onto others **
* Shift kids focus from gifts to giving by involving them in volunteer work or donating to charity.
* Write to soldiers – Send letters and care packages to those brave men and women serving in Afghanistan and elsewhere through an organization such as Soldiers Angels (soldiersangels.org)
* Volunteer Together – Allot a day or more to help others. Serve a meal at a soup kitchen or shelter or search idealist.org for local needs.
* Spread Good Cheer – Team up with a few families to spend time caroling or doing crafts at a nursing home or childrens hospital.
* Be Santa’s Helper – Fufill a disadvantaged child’s wish by answering a letter to Santa – check with the Rotary Club or Elks.
** Give to one another wisely **
* Don’t let presents dominate the season.
* Achieve a consensus – Have a family meeting early to manage expectations. Emphasize that fun, meaningful rituals that will take center stage – not expensive gifts.
* Set a budget – Set price limits and don’t follow detailed wish lists.
* Manage a large family – Maybe it’s time for presents for kids only or a “Secret Santa” exchange.
* Think outside the box – A homemade present such as a picture collage can have a greater value than something store bought. For gifts that kids of all ages can create at amazingmoms.com.

Come on and spread the JOY to friends and family!!
So we complain for 5 continuous months about the ridiculously sweltering heat of Phoenix. We talk about the glorious day sometime between October and November when we can finally order our Starbucks hot and can comfortably wear a shirt that goes past your elbows without risking heat stroke. And it has come my friends. Now we are in the absolute most amazing time of they year to be a Phoenician. Everywhere you see people driving with all windows down, patios at restaurants being crowded again, and a little hop in everyones step. Plus, it’s the holidays!! There’s happy songs on the radio, twinkling lights everywhere, kids losing their minds over the prospect of Santa making a visit. What could be better??
So get out and enjoy it to the fullest! We put together a little list for you to encourage you to bust out your holiday pins and red and green striped tube socks and celebrate the season! Let us know what your favorite AZ activity is too – we want to hear from you! And a BIG thanks to AZCentral.com for all of this awesome information!
