Olive: Grandpa, am I pretty?
Grandpa: You are the most beautiful girl in the world.
Olive: You’re just saying that.
Grandpa: No! I’m madly in love with you and it’s not because of your brains or your personality.

The sweet Nectar from the Mojo Gods

agave_plant1

Good news to all our Non Sugar Mojo Lovers out there!

We are now making our NS froyo with Agave Nectars.

What does this mean, you might ask? Well allow me to enlighten you on the basics of this amazing alternative to regular sweeteners!

Agave nectar is a natural, organic sweetener, extracted from the interior core of the Blue Agave (a cactus-like plant native to Mexico and abundantly found throughout our lovely state).

Agave nectar is not an artificial or non-nutritive sweetener but a pleasant tasting golden syrup composed of 90-percent fructose sugars and 10-percent glucose sugars.

What makes agave superior to sugar? Sugar is a processed sweetener that has no nutritive value, other than calories.

The appeal of Agave comes from its low ranking on the glycemic index (a chart that measures how greatly and how rapidly a food raises blood sugar). Although regular table sugar has a GI value of 68 and honey a GI of 55, the value of agave nectar is between 11 and 19.  Try busting out that little piece of info at your next cocktail party!

Therefore, increasing numbers of health connoisseurs have found that agave nectar is an ideal alternative for sugar and for artificial sweeteners like NutraSweet and Splenda.

Agave nectar has a flavor somewhere between honey and maple syrup. Hence, it is a splendid sweetener for teas (hot and iced), smoothies, yogurts, desserts, energy bars, or any cooked or raw food recipe.

David Cooke, an international buyer for Whole Foods, states, “Agave nectar is the answer to the prayers of millions of people who need to cut down on their sugar intake, particularly people with diabetes”.

So next time you are at your local Mojo, let’s give a shout out to one of our Native AZ plants and it’s health benefits by filling up that cup with some Non Sugar froyo lovin!  And if you do it tomorrow, be sure to say the word **AGAVE** at check out and you can get your deliciousness for HALF OFF!!

Monday Mojo-vation #9: Look at the positives of Food!

chocolate20pudding20eating20contest11

I found this little bit from Phil McNally, author and happiness coach. He sends out inspirational email messages to help inspire people on how to keep plenty of happy in their lives. You can subscribe to his emails at http://www.philmcnally.com. I like this piece because so often it seems as though we are always being told what to avoid in our diets without giving ourselves the freedom to actually appreciate our very favorite treats every so often. Everything in moderation!

Here is Phil’s post:

Food can be pleasurable and can be a great ‘free’ happiness booster!

However if we eat something we like, say a chocolate egg and then beat
ourselves up for being so “bad” we eliminate the pleasurable and the
happiness booster!

If I eat chocolate I eat it and enjoy it!
I prefer to look at positives of food.
Chocolate can be part of my five a day!
Chocolate comes from the coco bean which is a plant!

If I was going to beat myself up afterwards I’d stop myself before!
Eating can be pleasurable because it uses ALL our senses; taste, touch,
sight, smell and sound.
Our thoughts and emotions are also involved.

I’ll tell you a wee story: We taste with our eyes! Scientists changed the
colour of a white wine to red to see if 25 EXPERT tasters thought it was a
red wine. ALL of them did!

This week; eat foods you like and enjoy them!

Healthy eating tips;
Eat real food. Picked or grown food are best. Avoid foods with packaging and
minimize foods with ingredients.
Eat slowly.
Avoid TV dinners.  TV eaters over eat.
Stop eating after each bite. Put fork down.
Drink water (hydrate) before meals.
Snack on healthy foods.
Eat when hungry.
Minimize foods.
If hungry, drink water. See if still hungry.  Distract self. Check if
‘truly’ hungry.
Keep busy. Boredom is one of many reasons we eat.
Healthy eating starts with healthy shopping.
Experiment with eating. What foods/quantities improve your energy/mood?
Which foods don’t?
Eat mindfully. Use senses; taste, touch, sight, smell and sound. (Describe
food mindfully if you like!)
Knowledge =power. Read up on eating and foods.
Believe experts and trust your instincts.
Optional:
Eat healthy food for 6 days and eat whatever you like one day.
Eat only fruit one day a year and see if energy and mood are better/worse?

Have a happy EATING week! Keep positive!

By the way, the word of the day tomorrow is ENJOY!

Use it Tuesday at any Mojo at check out to get half

off your purchase… and don’t forget to

ENJOY every bite!!
